"Science, economics, ethics for the coming century": it is under this slogan that over the last eight years more than sixty Nobel Laureates in different disciplines from every part of the world have come together in Milan. The event has seen the convergence of diverse bodies of knowledge in a single culture, based on the advance of learning and on tolerance, to analyze the contradictions and conflicts of an increasingly global society in order to promote true and shared development. This year the traditional December gathering of "Ten Nobels for the Future" is an even more exceptional event, representing Milan's salute to the centenary of the Nobel Prize. It takes on even greater significance in the light of recent international events, which underscore the need to reflect upon the concepts of peace, security and liberty and call on us to undertake a joint effort to reduce injustice and inequality around the globe. Alfred Nobel's will establishes that the prestigious prize be awarded to those who, in their field, have brought "the greatest benefit to humanity". It is for this reason that we ask the Nobel Laureates in attendance - representing all those who participated in past editions or who have received the prize for their contribution to peace - to contribute to defining the duties of the western world in the new global equilibrium. In addition to this ceremony, on Friday, 30 November a special evening program has been organized at the Milan Auditorium, which will begin with the presentation of a commemorative medal to all the Nobel Laureates in attendance. The Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra of Milan, conducted by Riccardo Chailly, will then perform Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 3 in D Minor.
